These pieces of garments were traditionally made of Chinese silver grass, carefully chosen material for its smooth surface, hollow structure, and impermeable feature. Usually worn by fishermen, farmers, and rice pickers, these were elaborately made in various materials. After the Ming Dynasty, various versions of the capes were by Qing Dynasty emperors and officials.
