Fritz Baumann’s sculptured works are created in a reduced style showing Japanese influence. Oak is the favourite choice of wood, green, uncured tree trunks are inspected to find the optimal form for a stool, a table which is then extracted with a chainsaw. In contrast to the rough surface of the sides, the seat is smooth. This goes as well for the process of smaller items such as his various series of bowls where green wood tends to shrink and twist into its very own way and form, natural flaws and splits occur from the drying process, adding character to the design and making of each piece.
